Georgian Damage Assessment Delegation and Gov’t Representatives Meeting Held in Tbilisi

The meeting of Georgian damage assessment delegation from the US and Georgian Government representatives’ meeting was held on August 25.
The meeting was held at the Tbilisi Marriott Hotel on August 25 and lasted for two hours and a half behind closed doors. The US assistance for Georgia against the damage due to Russian aggression was discussed at the meeting.
As Georgian Prime-Minister Lado Gurgenidze declared, the visit of representative delegation in Georgia has begun today, August 25. According to him it is an economical group which is visiting Georgia to determine precisely what kind of assistance Georgia needs in order the aid to be optimal.
According to Gurgenidze, America, as Georgia’s big friend country has been actively involved in these discussions since August 11 to provide this economic collapse more or less smooth for our country.
The US Deputy Secretary of State in the fields of Economy, Energy and Agriculture Ruben Jepher III leads American delegation, who declared that he had very constructive and serious conversation with Georgian Prime-Minister.
According to him, their target is to assess the damages, which had incurred in Georgia precisely. He mentioned that this is his first visit in this regard, and it is being discussed how the two countries should cooperate to provide the assistance to Georgia to be engaged in the humanitarian aid rehabilitation and economical development.
The mentioned meeting was attended by the Minister of Economy Development Eka Sharashidze and the Minister of Energy Alexander Khetaguri.
According to the released information, the American aid is supposedly to be more than USD one billion.
The Minister of Economy emphasized that the on the first stage the most important is the humanitarian assistance, then the settlement of IDPs and restoration of their living conditions and damaged infrastructure.
The US delegation will held the meeting with the representatives of Georgian Government and non-governmental sector.
The visit will last until August 27.
