Sergey Chaban, Commander-in-Chief of peacekeeping forces of the CIS being in the Abkhazian conflict zone, raised an ultimatum to the Georgian side during the meeting held on the Enguri Bridge at 7.00am on August 11.
Russian peacekeepers demand that all Georgian policemen and law enforces, who are located on 10-km line of Zugdidi part of security zone, to give up their arms and weapons to peacekeeping forces. In other case, peacekeepers threaten to extract arms from 10.00 am by force.
In spite of the ultimatum raised by the Russian side, Georgian police is not going to give up weapons and continue protection of the population.
State Minister of Georgia in Reintegration Issues Temur Iakobashvili stated about this.
According to him, Russian soldiers have no right to raise such an ultimatum to Georgian police.
‘We have let know international community, including the UN, regarding this absurd demand and appealed them to take effective measures. We have to win several struggles, including on diplomatic front and it’s very important that such facts be fixed on international scale. The more such foolish things will be committed by Russians, the greater will be international support towards Georgia’, Temur Iakobashvili declared.
