Embassy of Belarus to open in Georgia

The Embassy of Belarus will be opened this year in Georgia. As local media reports, the ministers’ board has already issued the corresponding decree. According to the document, the Belarusian Finance Ministry will finance all the expenses related with the diplomatic mission opening.

According to local media, President Alexander Lukashenko discussed the issue in 2015 while visiting Georgia.

Georgia’s Embassy to Belarus has been functioning since 2007.

Bush Call on Russia not to Meet its Commitments and not to Recognize Separatist Regions

U.S. President George W. Bush has urged Russia not to recognize Georgia's two breakaway regions as independent, and has sent his deputy Dick Cheney to Georgia in a show of U.S. support. RIA Novosti reports.
Both houses of Russia's parliament voted unanimously on Monday in favor of a resolution asking President Dmitry Medvedev to recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, following requests from the leaders of both breakaway republics.
Bush said in a statement from his ranch in Texas, ‘I call on Russia's leadership to meet its commitments and not recognize these separatist regions.’
‘Georgia's territorial integrity and borders must command the same respect as every other nation's, including Russia's,’ he said.
Bush said recognition of the regions would be ‘inconsistent with unanimously approved United Nations Security Resolutions that Russia has consistently voted for in the past.

Nino Burjanadze to Pay Visit to USA

Nino Burjanadze, the President of the fund ‘For Development of Democracy ‘will leave for USA today, August 23.

President of Romania Pays Visit to Georgia August 21

President of Romania Traian Basesku will visit Georgia on August 21.
The First Person of Romania will leave for the President Chancellery from Tbilisi International Airport and meet with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili at 12.00pm.
The sides will discuss the situation existing in Georgia and Russian-Georgian conflict. Traian Basesku will leave for Tbilisi in the afternoon.

Dmitry Medvedev Claims Russian Armies Are Leaving Georgian Inner Territories

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev claims that Russia is taking its troops from internal territories of Georgia.
As the press service of the Kremlin reports, Medvedev declared about this in a phone conversation with his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy.
According to Dmitry Medvedev, after setting of check-points and dislocation places on August 22, part of peacekeepers will be taken to security temporal zone.
‘The contingent arrived to help peacekeepers, will leave for South Ossetia and Russian territories’, Medvedev stated.
A phone conversation between Medvedev and Sarkozy was held on the initiative of the French side on August 19.

Angela Merkel – Russian Military Units Must Be Withdrawn from Georgia until Tuesday

Russian military units must be withdrawn from Georgia until Tuesday, - German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated about that a news conference after two-hour long talks in the President's Chancellery in Avlabari district, Tbilisi.
Mikheil Saakashvili thanked German Chancellor and the French President for their support and reiterated that Georgia would not retreat single meter of its soil and would never allow annexing and ethnic cleansing of his country. Mikheil Saakashvili demanded withdrawal of Russian forces from Georgian territories and their substitution with international police forces in the conflict zones.
As for Angela Merkel, she made the strongest statement of the day, when she stated earlier today that Georgia would join NATO, but until Tuesday, when the NATO ministerial is due, Russian troops must leave Georgia. The German Chancellor emphasized that Russian troops must leave Georgia not in several weeks, but in several days.
As previously reported, Angela Merkel has arrived in Georgia today. She arrived from Moscow after negotiating with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

Bush Says Cold War Over

U.S. President George W. Bush has again reiterated Washington’s strong support to Georgia and warned Russia its actions may lead to its isolation.
‘A Cold War is over. The old days of satellite states and spheres of influence are behind us’, he said on August 15.
He reiterated that the support towards ‘people of Georgia and democratically elected government’ adding that Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected’.
He said that Georgia was a democracy, but ‘unfortunately, Russia has tended to view the expansion of freedom and democracy as a threat to its interests.’
‘Only Russia can decide whether it can put itself back on the path of responsible nations or continue to pursue the policy that promises only confrontation and isolation,’ Bush said. ‘To begin to repair relations with the United States, Europe and other nations and to begin restoring its place in world, Russia must respect the freedom of its neighbors.’
‘A contentious relationship with Russia is not in America’s interest and a contentious relationship with America is not in Russia’s interest. With these actions of recent days Russia has damaged its credibility and its relations with the nations of the free world.’
Moscow must honor its commitment to withdraw its invaded forces from all Georgian territory,’ George Bush said.

Mikheil Saakashvili Calls once again International Community to Apply for All Means of Diplomacy to End Russia’s Aggression

Mikheil Saakashvili, the President of Georgia called once again the international community to apply for all means of diplomacy in order to end Russia’s aggression.
The president stated the following in the press conference for foreign media held today in the administration of the President. Mikheil Saakashvili updated journalist on current developments in Georgia.
The President of Georgia underlined the fact that Russian forces go on with marauding, robbery and burning houses in the territory of Georgia. The president of Georgia represented the figure of the international organization -Human Right Watch regarding these facts.
According to Saakashvili, the mentioned organization is in doubt about the information spread by Russian side regarding the death toll of civilians in Tskhinvali. According to Russian information, attacks in Tskhinvali left 2000 civilians dead.
Mikheil Saakashvili called foreign media to inform the international community regarding the situation in the country in order Georgia to be helped in proper time.

Medvedev Met with Baghapsh and Kokoity

The President of Georgia reached a decision to leave CIS . Mikheil Saakashvili stated the following in the rally held today outside the Parliament of Georgia.
The President of Georgia called Ukraine and other CIS- member –countries to leave the organization.
‘Nobody can force Georgia to its knees. We reached several important decisions. We leave CIS and say farewell to Soviet Union. We call Ukraine and other CIS – member –countries to leave CIS.’- declared Mikheil Saakashvili.
As Mikheil Saakashvili stated, the Government of Georgia decided to declare south Ossetia and Abkhazia as occupied territory.
‘We decided to declare Russian army as occupation army, and south Ossetia and Abkhazia as - occupied.’ – The President of Georgia remarked.

Russian president calls halt to Georgian war

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- Russia's president has ordered an end to military operations against Georgia, the official Russian news agency Interfax reported Tuesday.

"I have reached a decision to halt the operation to force the Georgian authorities to peace," President Dmitry Medvedev said, according to Interfax.

The report also quoted Medvedev as saying that the "aggressor in South Ossetia has been punished and has incurred very significant losses."

Shortly before the announcement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a press conference in Moscow Tuesday that it would only accept a cease-fire if Georgia withdrew from the disputed region of South Ossetia and agreed to renounce the use of force.

As Russian troops marched further into the country, capturing a strategic road and opening a second front in western Georgia after moving in from the breakaway region Abkhazia Tuesday, Lavrov said Moscow did not trust the country's leadership.

He said Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili's "barbaric and brutal action" had undermined trust in Georgia.
